Member Benefits
Maryland Printmakers, a non-profit organization since 1989, promotes and supports
the fine art of printmaking through charitable and educational lectures,
demonstrations and
exhibitions. In cooperation with the
Maryland
State Arts Council, members have presented programs and
workshops at public
and private schools. The opportunity to teach these programs is open to all members.
Maryland Printmakers provides basic materials and the use of a small printing press
that the group maintains for this purpose.
Members have many opportunities to exhibit in juried, non-juried, and
traveling exhibitions. As a promotional resource, we maintain a slide registry
that is open for viewing to sales consultants, jurors, and the educational community.
Members can participate in our yearly print folio exchange, which, on alternate
years, travels an exhibit circuit. Our
folios have been exhibited several times in South America, many locations
in the U.S., the U.S. Embassy in the Congo, and have become part of the Art In
Embassies permanent collection.
Our printed newsletter is published quarterly for members, and an online
version is made publicly available at www.marylandprintmaker.org, with continual
updates covering exhibit opportunities, news, and events. In 1997, our organization
went online with a significant web presence, and its development continues today.
The site has been an asset to our organization and others', and has helped to unite
our members, fellow printmakers, collectors, educators, and the general public around
the world. Membership is open to all, anytime during the year, and we encourage
national and international interest. The organization is a member of the
Cultural Alliance
of Greater Washington, and the
American Print Alliance, which connects us with many other print councils in the
US and Canada. That networking opens up other exhibition opportunities, and keeps us
up-to-date on the art of printmaking and art in education.
In addition to monthly board meetings, Maryland Printmakers holds both spring and
fall membership meetings each year. Those gatherings are held at different locations
around Maryland, and are open to the public. They include general business in the morning,
a lunch break, networking with other printmakers, and a demonstration or seminar in the
afternoon. The afternoon activities range from demonstrations given by members or
visiting artists showing tried and true, new, and innovative techniques, to talks given by
guest speakers and critiques by professional curators.
Click here to read brief coverage of some of our
General Membership Meetings held in recent years. "Open Studios" have also
been organized independently and on occasion have been held in conjunction with our
general semi-annual meetings. At those events, the public and fellow artists have met
at a host member's printmaking studio where artwork has been brought and shared. Some
events include hands-on demonstrations ranging from pulp painting to new and diverse
printmaking techniques.
Maryland Printmakers continually facilitates many opportunities to learn, grow,
and teach. As a non-profit group, we operate mainly on a volunteer basis. The
strength of our organization depends upon the generous efforts of all of our members.
Our many different committees welcome help and ideas from both long-time and new
members who wish to enjoy the benefits that the group has to offer. More information
about joining is available here
on the web site, or membership
and slide registry forms can be
sent via postal mail. Further information can be obtained from the
membership secretary,
and Maryland Printmakers looks forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
